Abstract
As lymphedema provides favorable environment for growth of bacteria, it is assumed that the risk of wound infection can be higher in this population. Prosthetic joint infection (PJI) is one of the most serious complications after total knee replacement arthroplasty (TKRA). Because the num-ber of TKRA cases has been on the constant rise, it is not uncommon that patients with lymphedema receive TKRA. We experienced two patients with lymphedema who were occurred PJI after TKRA. They complained knee joint pain and diffuse swelling of whole leg. There were micro-organisms in culture of the knee joint fluid. After the com-plex decongestive physical therapy (CDPT) and anti-microbial therapy, both patients showed substantial im-provement in both lymphedema and PJI. It is assumed that underlying lymphedema could play a substantial role in oc-currence of infection.
